PRESS RELEASE:Pebble Beach Junior Golf Launches New Artist Series Celebrating the Beauty of the Game

Pebble Beach, CA — Great rounds of golf are often described as artistic—graceful, expressive, and beautiful to witness. At Pebble Beach Junior Golf (PBJG), we believe golf is not only a sport but a canvas for creativity, self-expression, and community connection. In that spirit, PBJG is proud to announce the launch of the Pebble Beach Junior Golf Artist Series, a new initiative that fuses the worlds of junior golf and visual arts.

Led by PBJG board member and creative visionary Stephen Malbon, the Artist Series invites local youth artists to create original renderings inspired by upcoming PBJG events, venues, and the broader impact of our programs. Each piece becomes the official visual mark of the event and will be featured in all promotional materials.

“Young artists are encouraged to express themselves freely in interpreting the emotion, spirit, and community behind each event,” said Stephen Malbon. “I am privileged to lead this effort on behalf of PBJG. My passion lies in making golf more inclusive and engaging for young people, and art is a natural way to help us do just that.”

PBJG Board Chair Ryan Hansen added, “Connecting our association with young, local artists is something I’m especially proud of. Our foundation is rooted in golf, but the sport has wide-reaching cultural appeal. This series allows us to reach more youth and celebrate their talents in fresh, meaningful ways.”

Each work of art will be professionally transferred to canvas and displayed at PBJG events. Later this year, the original pieces will be auctioned at one of our major fundraising events. Proceeds from the sale will support the continued growth of the Artist Series—with 50% of the funds going directly into a college savings fund for each participating young artist.

This exciting initiative reflects PBJG’s commitment to nurturing the full potential of young people—on and off the course. See the first two images below that we have received.

Please answer the following questions:

  • Name:  Hazel Hooper

  • Age: 13

  • Grade Level: 7th Grade

  • USGA Handicap: +2.3

  • Best 18-hole tournament score: 67

  • Favorite professional golfer and why:  Lydia Ko is one of my biggest inspirations. She’s an amazing player and is always so kind. I had the chance to talk to her briefly and watch her practice, and it was a great experience. The way she plays and carries herself on and off the course is something I really look up to. One day, I hope to play at that level and continue to improve just like she has.

  • Favorite professional athlete (non-golf) and why:  Outside of golf, my favorite athlete is Steph Curry. My family is huge Warriors fans, and what he’s done to support junior golf through the Underrated Tour is amazing. I’m really excited to be playing in his tour this summer. Plus, I can’t wait to watch the Warriors in the playoffs this year!

  • Tell us a little about yourself, why you play in PBJG events, and your long-term golf goals (150 words or less):  I’m Hazel Hooper, a 13-year-old golfer in the 7th grade. I play in PBJG events because they give me the chance to see my friends, play on great courses in the Pebble Beach area, and enjoy affordable events. My goal is to play college golf and eventually make it to the LPGA. These events help me learn, improve, and grow as a golfer.

  • Favorite PBJG tournament memory (75 words or less):  My favorite Pebble Beach Junior Golf memory was playing in a pro-am with Malia Nam. She was super nice and an awesome player! The best part? Our team won the event, and we all got massage guns as prizes! Definitely one to remember!

  • Favorite local golf course:  Sharp Park Golf Course in my hometown of Pacifica, CA

  • Dream golf course to play:  Pebble Beach Golf Links and Augusta National Golf Club

  • Favorite movie:  Rush Hour

  • Favorite school subject:  Math

  • Share a skill you use both on the golf course and in everyday life or school A skill I use both on the golf course and in school is problem-solving. On the course, I calculate distances and decide the best strategy for each shot. In math, I break down problems step by step to find the solution. Both require focus and careful thinking to make the right decisions.(75 words or less):

Grace Gao, Pebble Beach Jr. Golf Member, Shines at Augusta National’s Drive, Chip & Putt

Big shoutout to Grace Gao, one of our own at PBJG, for making a splash on national television! Grace dropped a bomb from 30 feet out at Augusta National’s Drive, Chip & Putt—and yes, it was every bit as clutch as it sounds.

Grace’s poise under pressure and smooth stroke earned her a well-deserved spotlight—and showed the entire country what PBJG talent looks like! Please check out the clip. We are working to get this posted on our social media.
